The astronomical rise of enterprise mobility and the use of mobile applications suggests that companies of all sizes will soon have to prepare business integration processes for such apps.
According to ABI Research's Mobile Enterprise Applications for Smartphones and Media Tablets, there will be 830 million users of business-to-employee and business-to-customer applications by 2016. That's because the amount of mobile employees utilizing the apps will increase by a compound annual growth rate of 90 percent between 2010 and 2016.
Many of these apps will fall under the B2C category, according to ABI Research, as companies try to connect better with consumers on the go.
“There is no reason why most businesses could not offer B2C smartphone or tablet apps to their customers, regardless of business size," ABI Research enterprise practice director Dan Shey said.
Mobility is one of the hottest trends for enterprise IT at the moment. According to a recent Network World report, smartphones and tablets will continue to define business process for at least the next 13 years, when the next technological innovation will take over.
