Microsoft Office 365 100 days in: 1 million chose the Cloud service

Now just over 100 days since Microsoft’s launch of their new Office 365 software – also known as Office 2013, the company has reported over 1 million subscriptions to Microsoft Office 365 Home Premium.

The company reported that the Microsoft Office 365 system is the best-selling version of Office to date, with an average of a download every second since its launch in January. The Windows 8 optimized software touts better cloud-transition capability and a smoother user interface.

The Office suite is available via download from their website, the subscription offers downloads for five different machines available per every one online subscription. New features include 20GB of SkyDrive storage, ability to work from virtually any machine and cloud business collaboration services. The company still continues to offer the non-subscription standalone version of office – for which purchase numbers have not been released.

The “Office as a service” platform includes a new version of Office that is re-architected to leverage the power of the cloud —on-demand from any machine, though it is optimized for Windows 8 and Windows mobile devices.

The recently released subscription numbers describe Office 365’s positive growth as, “on pace with some of the most popular services around,” wrote Corporate VP of Marketing for Microsoft Office Division John Case in a blog post announcing the milestone. An infographic provided my Microsoft (below), shows where Microsoft 365 stands in relation to other popular services in time to reach 1 million subscribers. Microsoft Office 365 is second only to Instagram in product subscription growth and is the fastest-growing paid service of the seven.

“The [subscription] numbers are only part of the story…Office exists to help people get things done, and people tell us they are choosing the service because it delivers full Office, it keeps them always up-to-date and it’s a fantastic value,” continued John Case is his blog post for Microsoft. Microsoft is encouraging current Microsoft Office 365 users to share their story about using the service on their social networking sites, including their Office Facebook page.

One Office 365 user, mom of 6 and full-time manager explains in a blog post for Office about how the she uses the service, “I feel like Office 365 Home Premium helps me be a better mom overall and more focused on the relationships in our house, not keeping up with schedules, schoolwork and the mountain of paper."
